Great kid's music game...

Found this one on the TVOKids website...

It's called the 'Make Your Own Music Game'.

You pick the musicians, DJs or beat boxer and create your own piece of music.

My 3 year old [almost 4] son loves it...bonus is you can record the piece of music your child creates and email it to family and friends.

Here's one that he created this morning...

Plays piano by ear...can't read notes....totally self taught singer and pianist....I say she has that 'it' thing industry people are always talking about.

Her name is Christina Grimmie. 15 years old.

You can check out her cover songs on her YouTube site.

Fabulous!

Saw this in the Style section of Toronto Life.....

AndrĂ© Leon Talley, Vogue’s over-the-top editor-at-large (remember that tennis scene from The September Issue?), will be a full-time judge on America’s Next Top Model. This season—excuse us, cycle—is currently filming in Auckland, New Zealand. We thought Tyra was crazy when she debuted her Smyze superhero, but clearly the woman is a television genius. Talley and Miss J in a room together plus clueless models equals reality TV bliss. [Independent]

I cannot wait until Cycle 14!

Gift Idea: The Mixed Tape

"Anyone who understands the obsessive attention to detail, the time it took to collate, select, and edit the content of a perfectly executed mix tape, or just someone who appreciated the rhythms and nuances of such extraordinary artifacts will treasure this collection of stories, comfortable and secure in the knowledge that such exquisite efforts were not made in vain and indeed there was a time when a humble cassette tape was perhaps the greatest gift of all."
- Shirley Manson, lead singer of Garbage

If you are looking for the perfect gift for that person on your list who can't get over the lost art of the 'mixed tape' then this is the book for you.

An art form combining the skills of a DJ with the intimacy of a letter, a good mixtape was the ultimate audio valentine.

Today, when the iPod and playlists reign supreme, the cassette has been rendered obsolete, and the art of crafting these sonic calling cards has been relegated to back-of-the-closet, thirty-something nostalgia.

Now, thanks to Cassette From My Ex: Stories and Soundtracks of Lost Loves by Jason Bitner , we can relive our lost youth and lost loves.

In Cassette from My Ex, 60 noted writers and musicians wax poetic about their own experiences with these charming artifacts and the relationships that inspired them. Contributors include: Maxim editor Joe Levy, author Rick Moody, former Rolling Stone writer and MTV2 veejay Jancee Dunn and The Magnetic Fields’ Claudia Gonson.

Stories range from the irreverently sweet, such as the doomed love affair between a Deadhead and a Goth, to the touching, such as the heartbreaking discovery of a former love passing away.
Everyone will find a story or a song to relate to. all you have to do is hit play.

Madonna: Poor Italian housewife...

From Italy Magazine in the UK....

Madonna is the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring / Summer 2010 Collection and, in pictures released in this week’s Italian edition of Vanity Fair, she is washing dishes, preparing food and eating spaghetti with her hands. The photos, in black and white, were inspired by the 1951 Luchino Visconti film, Bellissima, starring Anna Magnani and were shot in New York City in November by Steven Klein.

Top 100 Music Hits...

I blame my friend Iain for this musical time waster...
I blame him for the certain neglect in household chores and perhaps my children [just kidding]...
Such a fabulous list from Billboard magazine...
The most popular songs of the decade (2000-09) across all genres...
The Best of 2000: The Top 100 Music Hits

And what better way to remember the decade that was, musically speaking? Well listening to all 100 songs of course...which you can do on the Billboard site.

Ahh the dusting and laundry can wait yet another day.

Quote of the day....

Albeit totally delusional but it's the quote of the day nonetheless....

"…There is no doubt that he has a bright and shining career ahead of him."
~statement by Jon Gosselin's lawyers Mark and Mike Heller

This statement of client support is to downplay the ongoing rumours that Jon Gosselin is close to going broke now that TLC has successfully blocked him from making any money from future media appearances due to his numerous contract breeches...

"The Hellers have no concern relevant to being paid by Jon for their services and see no circumstances under which they would ever sue Jon."
(MSN Wonderwall)

Right.

A Christmas Video

Not the 'Christmas video' you would expect but worth watching...

Al Sharpton Blasts Tiger Woods

Love when satire websites...in this case Celeb Jihad runs a fake story and some news agencies run with it like it's the truth.

All though in this case I forgive them and will issue them a pass...because truly it does sound like something Mr. Sharpton might say.

Al Sharpton Blasts Tiger Woods for Lack of Mistress Diversity

The Rev. Al Sharpton held a press conference today to blast Tiger Woods for the lack of diversity among his mistresses. Sharpton claims that the lack of African-American women among Woods’ harem will have a negative affect on the black community, specifically young black girls.

“Why is it that a man who calls himself black can’t bring himself to cheat on his wife with a black woman?” said Sharpton, speaking to a group of supporters in Harlem. “What does it say to young black girls everywhere when you pass them over? Shame on you, Tiger Woods. What would your daddy say?”

Sharpton, who has long championed taking black women as mistresses, said that today’s black athletes need to stop neglecting black women when it comes to extramarital affairs, and should follow the examples of positive black role models such as Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King, Jr., both of whom cheated on their wives with black women. Sharpton also stressed that cheating with African-American women would help the black community financially by giving black girls the chance to sell their stories to tabloids and gossip magazines.

Added Sharpton, “I’m not asking you to not cheat on your wives, I’m just asking you to give back to your own community.”

Dear Mrs. Woods

Dear Mrs. Woods;

Who knew Carrie Underwood's 'Before He Cheats' would have such a profound impact on you?

Although you did take slight creative licence on the line: 'I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights"...although given who your husband is, it really was the only option now wasn't it? A Louisville slugger wouldn't have had the same effect.

Hmmm I wonder if Carrie can rework the lyrics to include a golf club? A song sequel perhaps?

Country Kicking Ass.....

Hands down 'Country' wins the award for putting on the best music awards shows ever....
Their focus is the live performances (and packing in as many as they can in three hours) and the awards themselves are secondary.

And kicking total ass was the Zac Brown Band with their cover of 'Devil Goes Down to Georgia'...outstanding.

Love this forward....

Sent to me by my beautiful friend....Alex...the Greek beauty herself.

The New Motto for 2010. Start it early!

A Poem About Our Girlfriends

Someone will always be prettier.
Someone will always be smarter.
Some of their houses will be bigger.
Some will drive a better car.
Their children will do better in school.
And their husband will fix more things around the house.
So let it go, and love you and your circumstances.
Think about it!
The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.
The most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children.
The richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the clothes~
might be lonely.

And the Word says, 'If I have not Love, I am nothing.' So, again, love
you.

Love who you are.

Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say, 'I am too Blessed to
be Stressed and too Anointed, to be Disappointed!'

Sticks and stones...

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

Yeah well who ever came up with that saying was obviously never a parent.
'Mommy I hate you....Mommy I don't love you anymore....' uttered in the middle of a preschooler's tantrum...

Words do hurt especially when spoken by a child that you love more than life itself.

Women Helping Women.

New this holiday season, the collection of kate spade new york is featuring merchandise hand-crafted by Women for Women International graduates in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The women, who have received a year of rights and vocational skills training through the Women for Women International life changing programs, have been offered employment opportunities by knitting hats, mittens, scarves and dog sweaters for the holiday collection as well as additional items in upcoming seasons for kate spade new york. Plans for the partnership to expand to other countries are already underway.

kate spade new york holiday collection mittens knitted by Bosnian program graduates.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina the slow recovering economy has left women especially vulnerable, as they struggle to earn a living in the face of an unemployment rate reaching over 50 percent.

Eighty-one percent of the women Women for Women International works with in Bosnia and Herzegovina come to us with no jobs. The HAND IN HAND partnership provides us with a crucial opportunity to help Bosnian women rebuild their lives, support their children and ultimately help rebuild their country.

The launch of HAND IN HAND is actually the launch of a new era in Women for Women International's ability to move women survivors of war from victim to survivor to active and productive citizens.

Women for Women International was founded to assist Bosnian women who had survived horrific experiences in the Balkans wars. Hundreds of thousands of women were raped and civilians lost their lives. 16 year later Women for Women International are overjoyed at the opportunity to deliver such concrete opportunities to women who have survived so much and feel that the world has forgotten them.

Here is how the partnership works:

Women enroll in the Women for Women International program and decide to use knitting, a traditional skill in the region that has passed through generations of women, to earn an income.

Women for Women International provides the training in knitting for the women, with creative direction from kate spade new york.

Products are sold to kate spade new york and they pay the women for their work.

This partnership has helped program graduates transform their traditional handcrafts into beautiful winter accessories. Rabija Mujalo, a Bosnian participant and knitter for the patnership says, "I earned nearly as much money knitting at home in my spare time as my son who works full time in a factory.” Rabija’s story is an example of how HAND IN HAND is creating sustained economic self sufficiency.

HAND IN HAND collection will be featured in Elle Magazine’s December edition.

Hand knitted hats, mittens, scarves and dog sweaters are for sale now in kate spade new york stores and online.

Help A Child With Cancer Enjoy His Early Christmas By Simply Sending Him A Card

Help A Child With Cancer Enjoy His Early Christmas By Simply Sending Him A Card

Taken from 'The Copper Brick Road' blog:

Noah Biorkman was diagnosed with Stage IV
Neuroblastoma in February 2007. He went into remission in August 2007. In September 2008, Noah relapsed with lesions in his right arm and right leg. After going through six different trials, the cancer continues to spread...

They are celebrating Christmas this weekend because they do not think he will make it through the season. He asked his mom if she could have his friends send him Christmas cards or ornaments for Christmas. He loves Christmas.

I don't know Noah, but he's a 5 year old little boy having to endure so much. I felt that sending him a Christmas card was the least I could do. So, I'm passing the word to try and get everyone to send a Christmas card his way to make things a little brighter for him.

And she's letting the world know too....

From the liner notes of her new album Play On: "Thank you #12. You are the most amazing addition to my life! A 3 1/2 year old's perspective.

Tonight while doing the 'cuddle-time' after reading his three books, my 3 1/2 year old was silent for a bit and then he turned to me and said...

'Mommy it makes me sad really on the inside when I yell and scream and stomp my feet and say bad things. It does it makes me sad. But I think I do that because I don't like it when people say 'No' to me. Maybe one day I will be OK with the word 'No' but for now I hate it. So I think I'm going to still have tantrums. I'm sorry Mommy. But you still love me right?'

Yes, yes Mommy does. Tantrums and all.

Mommy loves you very much.

Rick Mercer...

The best piece on H1N1 yet....
Rick Mercer nailed it.

And just to back up Rick's rant...this is directly from the Canadian Government's website:

"The benefit of immunization the prevention of serious illness and death far outweighs any risk associated with being immunized."

Then...

"Serious adverse events are reactions that cause life-threatening illness, hospitalization, disability or death, like a severe allergic reaction, paralysis, or a seizure."

Really.

U2 concert on YouTube

CONOR POPE

U2’S CONCERT in front of 96,000 fans at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California on Sunday night will potentially reach millions after it was confirmed that it is to be streamed live on video-sharing website YouTube.

The broadcast, from 3.30am Irish time on Monday, is part of the Google-owned website’s ongoing attempt to boost its advertising revenue by moving beyond hosting short video clips into streaming full length films, television programmes and concerts.

It is seen by the band as a chance to widen its audience base as this year’s US tour winds down. U2 manager Paul McGuinness said: “Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 – this time U2 can go to them, globally.”

The concert will be available in 16 countries, including the US, Ireland and Britain. Fans will be allowed to comment in real time through a Twitter feed and will be encouraged to make donations to Bono’s Red charity during the gig.

This is the first time YouTube has streamed an entire concert by a major international act. It has started streaming Hollywood films to US users and will offer a catch-up service for Channel 4 programming from early in 2010.

Advertising space will be available on archived gig footage. A YouTube spokesman said it has yet to be determined whether ads will be shown during the live gig.

YouTube music manager Michele Flannery said the site was confident it would be able to handle the millions of users expected to log on for the show. Two repeat showings will be broadcast immediately after the main event ends on Monday morning.

Signed, Just Curious.

Dear Suits at Starbucks,

Why is is that when I order a non-fat grande cafe mocha the baristas always ask me if I want whipped cream on top?
Does the non-fat specification of my coffee order not imply that I don't want whipped cream since it contains a bazillion calories and therefore making my non-fat milk choice null & void?
Now I know Kneale Mann would say [he was there at the Starbucks when I ordered] there is no such thing as a given or 'implied' these days....
But come on.

Signed,
Just Curious.

FYI: if you order with the whipped cream...that's 360 calories and 19 grams of fat....hence the evilness that is whipped cream.

Who knew it was possible?

My husband will weep in delight at the sight of this masterpiece. For real.

French Fries Birthday Cake Design

Ingredients:
  • 1 (8-inch) round cake
  • 1 can (16 oz) vanilla frosting
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 frozen pound cake (12 oz), thawed

What you'll need:

  • A bread knife
  • A sheet pan
  • A wax-paper-lined basket, bowl, or plate
  • 1 resealable sandwich-size plastic bag (Ziploc)
  • 1 mini-paper cupcake liner

For the base of the cake:

  1. Using the bread knife, trim the 8-inch cake to fit into a wax-paper–lined basket, bowl, or plate.
  2. Set aside 3 Tbsp of t he vanilla frosting in a small bowl. Spread the remaining vanilla frosting over the trimmed cake to cover completely.

For the french fries:

  1. Preheat broiler.
  2. Trim the darker crusts of the cake away with a bread knife. Cut the pound cake crosswise into ½-inch slices. Cut each slice into ½-inch-thick sticks.
  3. Spread the pound-cake sticks in a single layer on a sheet pan. Place under the broiler for 15 to 30 seconds until the tops are lightly toasted and golden brown. (Watch the pound cake carefully -- it burns easily. Turn the pound-cake sticks and repeat on each side until they are lightly toasted all over.
  4. Arrange the pound-cake sticks on top of the frosted cake to resemble french fries.

For the ketchup:

  1. Add red food coloring to the reserved 3 Tbsp of vanilla frosting to tint it the color of ketchup.
  2. Spoon the red frosting into a resealable plastic bag.
  3. Place the mini–paper cupcake liner on top of the "french fries." Snip a small corner from the bag with the red frosting. Pipe the red frosting into the paper liner.
