I fell in love with this passage the minute I read it...
It was inspired by the writing of Loren Eiseley.
A man walked down a sandy beach early one morning just as the sun was rising.
In the distance he saw a young boy repeatedly bend down, pick something up and toss it gently into the ocean.
As he got closer he noticed that the beach was covered as far as the eye could see with starfish stranded by the receding tide.
As the man walked towards the boy he called out, "What are you doing?"
As the man walked towards the boy he called out, "What are you doing?"
"I am throwing starfish into the ocean, or they will die in the sun", replied the boy.
The man paused and looked out across the miles of beach in front of them, then said "Young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it, you can't possible get to them all. Surely even with all your effort you can't make a difference here!"
The man paused and looked out across the miles of beach in front of them, then said "Young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it, you can't possible get to them all. Surely even with all your effort you can't make a difference here!"
The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves. "It made a difference for that one."
Just another reminder that...
"Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world."
