So another MTV VMAs came and went.....and thankfully we had Twitter to vent and laugh with...really it made watching the award show tolerable and entertaining.

This goes down as one of my least favourite VMAs...there was far more 'not getting it' as opposed to 'getting it' this year. And now it's not because I exceed the MTV viewing age limit by like 20 years...it's because I have taste.

The 'black carpet' interviews were especially atrocious. I loathe 'red/white/black carpet interviews'. Unless you're Ryan Seacrest just don't even try. Really Ryan can schmooze famous people like no ones business.

The arrival show was so cringe worthy last night....bad, bad. Really MTV producers all that's needed is a smile, pose and wave by the artists. No speaking. Unless of course we have them mime their answers. That would amuse me so.

Then the award show itself.....ahhhhh so many inexplicable moments were to be had. And yes there were some redeeming moments...but so very few.

WTF Are You Wearing....

Oh Nicki Minaj leave the outlandish outfits to Gaga - she does it 1000x better.

You Ruined the Movie 'The Outsiders' Forever For Me Because I'll Never Be Able To Look At Ralph Macchio's Character the Same Way Again....

Gaga it was cool for the first 3 minutes....and then it got tired fast. And then it completely crossed over to unbelievably annoying. (And yes I am a Gaga fan)

Ghetto "I Got Shafted Again by MTV' Tribute Award....

Oh Brit please just stay away from MTV MVAs....every time you go you end up getting the shaft and looking like an ass. The build up for your award was huge....there was more promo time given to plugging you actually receiving the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award than the tribute itself. It was so ghetto and so awkward. Yes the little kids and their mad Britney dancing skillz was fierce but there should have been more. And then there was Lady Gaga completely ruining the moment. If I could have reached my hand through the TV and flicked Gaga off the stage I would have. And how did your acceptance speech turn into a introduction for Beyonce's performance? Many heads were shaking at that.

Shut the f%$#@! Up Already

Well at least Tyler. The Creator kept the tradition of provocative lyrics and profane filled Tweets during his acceptance speech....he made censor guy work for his pay check last night.

What a Musical Performance that Actually Involves Playing Instruments?

Young The Giant - 'My Body'....well at least MTV recognized that some bands still play with instruments.

You Mean 'Bass' Can Be Pronounced Two Different Ways? Like Wow.

It occurred to me when Snooki and Sammi realized that 'bass' could be pronounced two different ways, while reading off lists of nominated videos...(it was a mind blowing revelation for them both)...that the entire cast of Jersey Shore should do a full week on 'Jeopardy'. It would reduce Alex Trebek to a whimpering host in a fetal position on stage left. First category....'Bass is Base'. Ratings would be through the roof.

YES I Am Pregnant

Beyonce looked glam and fab and completely stole the show with her announcement that she and Jay-Z are 'expecting'. You'd think she was the only woman to ever get pregnant. But she was glowing and the smiles on her face and Jay-Z's were contagious. They be very happy.

Just In Case You Missed The Announcement...YES I Am Pregnant...

Guaranteed that from now until she gives birth, every picture taken of Beyonce will be of her holding her ever growing tummy. She's just a little happy about becoming a momma. She proved that you can still be fierce and a momma to be.

Oh Chris Brown you were beyond atrocious. The worst lip synching since Ashely Simpson on SNL. But in your case that would be karma kicking you in your ass. You looked like a complete hack. Not even your dance moves could save you. You can go away any day now.

This Is Where My Career Has Gone....

Oh Cloris. Cloris, Cloris. It was so embarrassing to watch that on-stage banter between you and the cast of Jersey Shore. You obviously pissed someone off at MTV. I felt so bad for you.

I Am Going To Diss You and Thank You In One Breath...

Oh Katy it was a moment....letting Kanye know that in this case he could interrupt you and it would be OK and then thanked him for all his work on the single....it was a perfect mix of awkwardness and happiness.

Goosebumps Moment...

When they showed the brief video clip of the collaboration between Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse (on Tony's upcoming Duets II album)....it gave me goosebumps. It was amazing. Their voices meshed together beautifully. And proved once again the undeniable talent that Amy possessed.

That's How You Do A Tribute...

Yes Bruno Mars even got a standing ovation from his sworn enemy, Tyler. The Creator. Bruno brought his own Motown inspired style to his tribute to Amy and it was perfection. Bruno you did good.

So that was the MTV MVAs 2011....can't wait for next year.

Easy Summer Salad

Cook quinoa per instructions on package (and put in fridge for at least 2 hours)

Removed chilled quinoa from fridge.

Add finely chopped cilantro. Use as much as you like. If you dislike the taste of cilantro, you can substitute Italian style flat leaf parsley.

Add one large chopped tomato and one cucumber.

1/2 small red onion finely chopped.

Mix together.

Add the juice of one freshly squeezed large lemon.

Coat and mix with Farm Boy Lemon Garlic Dressing.

Super easy and tastes like summer in a bowl

Delicious.

Keeps for 3 days (just keep adding more freshly squeezed lemon juice).

Brilliant resume.

Mini Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Loaves

Ingredients

1/4 cup natural raw Turbinado sugar (you can use brown sugar too)
1/2 cup softened butter (or you can use 1/2 cup of olive oil)
1 egg
1/2 cup quinoa flour, 1/2 cup chickpea flour (or you can use 1 cup all-purpose flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup applesauce (or substitute 1 mashed banana)
3/4 cup vanilla or plain yogurt
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup Grape Nut cereal (or you can use 1/2 cup of All Bran Buds)
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla extract and yogurt. Combine dry ingredients; add alternately with applesauce to the creamed mixture. Stir in oats, cereal and chips.

Fill greased or paper-lined muffin tins 3/4 full. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.

Yield: 6 mini loaves or 12 large muffins

I found this recipe on one of the forums on Canadianparents.com

Homemade Skor Bar

Soda cracker or Breton, or Melba toast, or crack wheat crackers (any type of cracker with no flavor to it - avoid Ritz)

1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

3/4 cup chocolate chips

Pre-heat oven at 400F (I use my toaster oven).

In a pan (I use my toaster oven pan (10X8),place cracker one next to the other to cover all the bottom of the pan.
In a small saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar and vanilla.
When brown sugar is melted, pour over the crackers and place in the oven for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the caramel should be bubbling hard.
Remove from oven. Turn off oven. Pour chocolate chips over and place in the hot oven for 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove and using the back of a spoon, spread melted chocolate chips over caramel and crackers.
Place in fridge for at least one hour. Score your pan in 24 pieces.
Place in the fridge until very cold. Serve cold and keep in the fridge.

If you are using a bigger pan: remember butter and brown sugar should always be in equal amount.... 1 cup butter for 1 cup brown sugar...
The vanilla stay the same.

This recipe can be made ahead of time and frozen between layers of wax or parchemin paper.
This recipe cannot be left at room temperature too long (hot Summer day)the chocolate will melt....

Dear Young & The Restless Writers;

I write this letter as an old friend who been around as a faithful viewer for a long, long time.

I started watching the sordid lives of Genoa City residents since I was a young and impressionable 13 years old. (I'm now 38 so you do the math...but it's been a long time).

So as a friend, north of the border...in that big mass of land called 'Canada'...I've got to call you out on your use of 'Canadianisms' on the show. And how insanely inaccurate they are.

I must admit when Canadian fans hear anything Canadian (like when Lauren shipped off her son, that she had with Dr. Scott Grainger, to Toronto to protect him from crazy Sheila) we get a little giddy. But I must confess that the giddiness lately has been short-lived and now turns to flat out mocking when we see how 'off' your attempts to include a Canadian plot to your story lines are.

So this isn't a hate mail....just a refresher on a few things Canadian that you got wrong in the last few months.

1. First off, apparently someone on your writing staff has a little crush on RCMP Constable Benton Fraser from the now defunct TV show 'Due South'. Because remember when Michael and Daniel raced at warp speed** across the border to go find that evil, crazy Daisy? And they needed help from the Canadian police....and RCMP man showed up at the door?

**I say warp speed because Canada is the second largest country in the world...so maybe just maybe you could go two or three commercial breaks before people reach their destination in Canada. We're a big country so it take a little time to get where you need to go...private plane or not...from Genoa City.

Umm yeah. We actually have regular police officers here, just like in the US and they don't show up in a felt hat, scarlet serge tunic, blue serge breeches, long boots, jack spurs, brown gauntlets and brown leather gloves. So you might want to update the Y&R costume department.

2. The Ottawa - Water District plot. Oh this one amused us so especially Victor parachuting his way into Ottawa. I've lived in Ottawa all my life and was completely unaware that we in fact had a 'water district'. Twitter and Facebook was all a buzz with Ottawa residents trying to figure out what touristy Ottawa spot one of your writers had Googled to work this seedy, criminal laden, ghetto looking bar run by crazy Maggie into the Y&R story line.

All we could come up with was the Dow's Lake Pavillion.

But with that said Lago, Malone's Lakeside Grill and Mexicali Rosa's don't exactly conjure up images of that bar from hell that Maggie ran. Also not really a plausible plot that anyone could make a getaway in a water craft or sea plane along the Rideau Canal...unless of course one Jack Bauer was planning the getaway.

And finally....

3. We are thrilled to pieces that crazy Daisy is coming back to Genoa City and leaving Canada. (Really how about sending some of your Genoa City crazies south of your border for a while to go hide a out and plot their next devious plan of terror and mayhem). Only problem was that the scene where Daisy focused her crazy eyes on her one way bus ticket back to Genoa City, it showed that she was leaving from Saskatoon, Ontario.
So so close. But yet so so far. You got the Saskatoon part right....just not the province.

See Saskatoon is actually two provinces to the west of Ontario...in Saskatchewan. And I doubt there is direct bus route for the record. But I digress.

Now as I write this my husband is mocking me for spending even a second writing this because after all, Young And The Restless is a soap opera...so it's make believe. But thing is I've devoted ~~a lot~~ ~~of time~~ many years to the show, so as a loyal viewer, I figured that friends tell friends the truth and call them out on things that they do wrong.

Consider it tough love.

So my work here is done.

Actually, no. Just two more things.

1. Please do something with Victoria's hair...really it's getting out of control. She's starting to remind me of Junior Gorg, of the family of giant furry humanoids, from Jim Henson's TV show 'Fraggle Rock'...

Really because sometimes too much hair is just way too much hair.

And

2. Please, please try and convince Billy Milly to stay on after his contract expires. This hawt Southern boy with the sexy smirk and dreamy eyes has become the only reason I tune in day in and day out....

Le sigh.

So in an effort to improve your knowledge about the country to the north of you...we're supposed to be BFFs don't you know...I'm sending along a Canadian care package that my friend Matty (Matthew Solomon) has graciously agreed to deliver to you at the CBS Studios. FYI he's also a brilliant actor in Los Angeles and would make a fine addition to your cast but I digress.

In this care package you'll find a case of Canada Dry, real Canadian maple syrup, Canadian bacon, ketchup chips and one badly needed updated map of Canada.

Quinoa ~ Tabouleh Salad Recipe

Quinoa:

Bring 2 cups of chicken broth to a boil...add 1 cup quinoa. Cook oh high for 12 min then reduce to simmer for another 5min.
Let sit with cover on until cooled down.

Tabouleh:

I either make my own on buy it at Farm Boy/Loblaws/Costco.

To make it: parsely, shallots, tomatoes, bulger, mint, 1 minced garlic clove, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Chop up and combine all ingredients.

Mix the Quinoa and Tabouleh together.

The make a dressing with grape seed or olive oil....2 gloves of minced garlic...salt & pepper and lots of lemon juice. (or buy the Farm Boy Lemon Olive Oil dressing)

Refrigerate over night and before serving squeeze fresh lemon juice.

Good all week....if it lasts that long.
